Midway Research and Immunology Center in Fort Pierce, FL participated in the clinical trial supporting the FDA approval of HOVILPRI® (pritelivir), marking an important milestone in the development of new treatment options for people with difficult-to-treat herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections.
Midway is proud to recognize Dr. Moti Ramgopal and the research team for their contribution to the clinical research behind this advancement in infectious disease care.
A New Treatment Option for Difficult-to-Treat HSV Infections
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved HOVILPRI® (pritelivir) tablets for adults with weakened immune systems who have herpes simplex virus (HSV) lesions affecting the skin or mucous membranes that have not responded to standard antiviral treatments.

Pritelivir works through a different mechanism than traditional HSV antivirals by inhibiting the viral helicase-primase complex, which plays a key role in viral DNA replication. Its approval introduces a new treatment option for eligible patients whose infections have been difficult to manage with existing therapies.
The approval was supported by results from PRIOH-1, a Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating pritelivir in immunocompromised adults with difficult-to-treat HSV infections. Midway Research and Immunology Center in Fort Pierce participated in this clinical research effort, contributing to the broader work supporting the evaluation of the treatment.
Advancing Infectious Disease Research
