Getting Started

How TelePrEP Works for New Patients

With TelePrEP, getting started is easy and flexible. Begin with daily oral PrEP, or choose to switch to injectables administered every two months after the first two injections. Start with a virtual first appointment, followed by an in-person second visit, then alternate between in-person and virtual follow-ups regularly. Once your first appointment is set and lab orders are ready, a 1-month supply of oral PrEP will be shipped to your door, ensuring you're protected from day one.

TelePrEP requires active insurance to receive your oral PrEP supply immediately. If you're uninsured, please contact one of our locations to discuss alternative options.

Step 1 Complete a Pre-Screening Form & Pre-Register

Start by completing a quick online eligibility form and uploading your insurance information. Once submitted, our specialists will be notified and will reach out to schedule your appointment.

Next, complete pre-registration on the patient portal. This step lets us quickly import your information and set up your appointment. Please note, you'll be able to log in to the patient portal only after your appointment has been scheduled.

Step 2 Get a Call to Schedule Your Appointment

Once your account is set up, a specialist will contact you by phone. During this call, we'll review your eligibility, answer any questions, and schedule your first telehealth appointment with one of our healthcare providers. Your lab orders will be sent to your preferred lab, and a 1-month PrEP prescription will be sent to a specialty pharmacy. Our team is committed to making your PrEP journey easy and accessible.

Step 3 Initial PrEP Prescription & Lab Work

Before your first virtual visit, it's important to complete lab tests to ensure you're an eligible candidate for PrEP. We'll guide you on where and how to get your lab work done, which typically includes HIV testing, kidney function tests, and screening for other STIs. In the meantime, we'll send you an initial 1-month supply of PrEP, allowing you to start protecting yourself right away.

Step 4 Have a Virtual Visit with Your Provider

During your first month on PrEP, you'll have a virtual consultation with one of our experienced providers. They'll review your lab results, discuss your health history, and address any questions you may have about PrEP medication or HIV prevention, including your options for injectables. This virtual visit ensures that you're on the right track for your care.

Step 5 Receive Refills Tailored to Your Needs

If you choose oral PrEP, you'll receive 3-month refills to keep you protected. For injectables, you'll start with two initial injections, one month apart, followed by injections every two months thereafter. Our goal is to provide you with the right care that fits your lifestyle.

Step 6 Follow Up In-Person & Alternate Virtual Visits

To continue your PrEP regimen, you'll need to complete follow-up visits every 3 months, alternating between in-person and virtual visits.

Virtual appointments are designed to renew your prescription, check in on your health, and ensure the medication is working as intended.

In-person visits promote a partnership with your healthcare team, providing coordinated, comprehensive, and continuous quality healthcare.

Modern Medicine

What is PrEP and Why is it Important for You?

PrEP, or Pre-exposure Prophylaxis, is a groundbreaking advancement in HIV prevention. It's a daily medication that can significantly reduce your risk of contracting HIV.

Whether you're in a relationship with an HIV-positive partner, belong to a higher-risk community, or simply want to protect your health, PrEP empowers you to take control of your future.

What does PrEP do?

PrEP works by blocking HIV from establishing an infection in your body. The medication builds up in your system, and when taken consistently, it offers powerful protection. Studies have shown that PrEP is over 99% effective at preventing HIV transmission through sexual contact when taken as directed.

Consistent Use is Key: PrEP is most effective when taken daily. Even if you miss a dose here or there, it still offers a high level of protection. However, adherence is crucial for maximum effectiveness.

Protection for Everyone: PrEP is suitable for anyone at risk of HIV. It's commonly prescribed for people in mixed-status relationships, men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender women, and individuals who inject drugs.

Who Should Consider PrEP?

You should consider PrEP if you:

  • Have an HIV-positive partner.
  • Have multiple sexual partners, especially in areas with high HIV rates.
  • Don't always use condoms.
  • Share needles or equipment for injecting drugs.
  • Are part of a community disproportionately affected by HIV.

Why PrEP is a Game-Changer

PrEP has revolutionized HIV prevention by offering individuals control over their own protection. Unlike traditional prevention methods, PrEP doesn't rely on a partner's behavior. This independence can provide peace of mind, confidence, and the freedom to live your life without constant fear of HIV exposure.

Over 99% Effective: When taken daily, PrEP offers unmatched protection against HIV, making it a critical tool in preventing transmission.

Long-Term Safety: PrEP is well-tolerated and safe for long-term use, with minimal side effects for most people.

Key to Ending HIV: By expanding access to PrEP, we can dramatically reduce new HIV infections, bringing us closer to a future free from HIV transmission.
